LITHIUM VALLEY BRAZIL
A socio-economic development project for the Jequitinhonha Valley region based on the lithium production chain. The region has the largest proven lithium reserves in Brazil - according to the Mineral Resources Research Company.
Conceived by Invest Minas, the project involves working with various state and municipal government bodies to formulate public policies, addressing challenges such as:
Attracting companies and investments
Qualification of the workforce
Financing
Innovation and technology
Infrastructure
Promote investment, business and jobs in the Jequitinhonha Valley and place Minas Gerais on the international map of the lithium chain
Generate jobs and raise the average income of the Jequitinhonha Valley
Attract investment in the entire lithium chain until the battery production plant becomes viable;
AIMS
LITHIUM IS AN ESSENTIAL MINERAL FOR THE PRODUCTION
of metal alloys, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and, above all, batteries. The highlight is the manufacture of long-life batteries that equip electric vehicles, an industry driven by the energy transition. According to the MME, Brazil is among the countries with the greatest potential for lithium extraction in the world, and the differential of the lithium found in Minas Gerais lies in its high level of purity.
MINAS GERAIS IS STRATEGICALLY LOCATED FOR THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE SUPPLY CHAIN:
regular infrastructure, including roads, water, clean energy and access to ports
STATE OF MINAS GERAIS
The only national producer of lithium concentrates and chemical compounds
More than 40 different substances, some of which are relevant to the energy transition, such as: lithium, graphite, silicon and rare earths.
STRATEGIC MINERALS
Niobium
Almost 85% of Brazilian production, representing more than 90% of global production.
Graphite
Almost 100% of the production processed in Brazil
Lithium
100% national production
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF MINERALS: PRODUCTION IN MINAS GERAIS
LEGAL SCENARIO
Brazil has legislation favorable to mining
Government efforts to debureaucratize the mining sector: Brazil issues presidential decree (Federal Decree 11.120/2022) allowing unrestricted trade in any products containing lithium
Tax-free exports
Legal, social and economic stability in the mining sector
Agility in the environmental licensing process while maintaining high environmental standards
Companies investing in the SUDENE region can benefit from tax incentives
THE LITHIUM VALLEY IN NUMBERS
EXPORTATIONS OF LITHIUM VALLEY IN BRASIL
Through the Brazilian Lithium Company (CBL), Minas Gerais has been exporting lithium carbonate to various countries since 2019, concentrate and spodumene since 2020, and fine spodumene since January 2021. As of July 2021, it has exported approximately 250 thousand tons. The company SIGMA Lithium also made its first shipment of 30 thousand tons to China, with 15 thousand being concentrate and 15 thousand ultrafine rejects.
CBL commences the exportation of Lithium Carbonate
HOW TO INVEST IN LITHIUM VALLEY
